Dr. Liane has been seeing patients at Acuity Vision since 2013 and took over ownership of the practice in 2018. She grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada where she completed her undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of Calgary. She then went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago with Clinical Honors in Primary Care, Contact Lenses, and Ocular Disease. She gained further experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye conditions during her clinical rotations through the VA Hospitals in Newington, CT and Las Vegas, NV, as well as rotations through the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago.
In addition to her clinical skills, Dr. Liane has enjoyed teaching the next generation of eye care providers as a teaching assistant and tutor at ICO. Her attention to detail and background experience in a variety of optometric specialties provides a unique degree of expertise to her patients. Dr. Liane believes there is nothing more valuable than a person’s ability to see, and stresses the importance of yearly eye health examinations to detect and prevent eye disease in its earliest stages. Outside of work, Dr. Liane enjoys skiing and snowboarding, singing in her community chorus, travelling, and spending time with her husband, two sons and two dogs.
Dr. Wassenaar grew up in Chicago, IL where she completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at North Park University with a Summa Cum Laude distinction. She then attended The New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA where she enhanced her clinical experience by completing specialty rotations at the VA Hospital in Worcester, MA, various Low Vision Rehabilitation sites including The Perkins School for the Blind, Indian Health Services in Santa Fe, NM, and community health centers in Boston. She received Honors for Excellence in Clinical Care upon graduation. She then went on to complete a residency in Ocular Disease at the W.G Hefner VA Hospital in Salisbury, NC. During her time in the south, she was spoiled by some of the best barbecue and fried chicken the U.S has to offer! Dr. Wassenaar has a particular clinical interest in ocular disease, low vision rehabilitation, and specialty dry eye management. She has a passion for providing excellent eye care with an emphasis on the importance of annual eye exams in maintaining vision, eye health, and detecting systemic health conditions.
Dr. Wassenaar has called Rhode Island home since 2018. When not providing care to Acuity’s wonderful patients, she can be found reading countless library books, playing board games, doing escape rooms with friends, and exploring New England’s best hiking spots with her husband Matt and their dog Rhody (yes, named for Rhode Island).
Dr. Sara Crussana grew up in Westerly, RI. She earned her undergraduate degree at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, and graduated with honors in 2009 from the New England College of Optometry in Boston. Upon graduation, Dr. Crussana was commissioned into the United States Navy where she served as the Head Optometrist and Division Officer at the Kaneohe Bay Optometry Department. She also assisted as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry – providing clinical instruction, guidance, and leadership to optometry students.
Dr. Crussana is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and was trained at the Naval Warrior Refractive Eye Surgical Program in San Diego. She has over 15 years of clinical experience in all phases of visual and medical eye care, with a particular interest in ocular surface disease and myopia management. Since leaving the Navy, Dr. Crussana has been in private practice in Washington State and the metro DC area. She has since returned to Rhode Island, where she has happily settled in South County with her husband, four children, and adoring dog Bruno.
Dr. Mark grew up in Rhode Island and earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Rhode Island. He then continued his studies at Pennsylvania College of Optometry and received his doctorate in Optometry. Dr. Mark has been an Optometrist in Coventry for over 40 years, and founded Acuity Vision & Eyewear Center in 1998. His primary professional interest lies in family eye care and long-term treatment of geriatric patients.
When not seeing patients, Dr. Mark enjoys gardening, travel, and spending family time with his children and grandchildren.
Dr. Mark retired from active practice in 2022.
Britney began in the ophthalmic industry as an ophthalmic technician in 2010, gaining experience in numerous specialty areas including retina, cornea, and the operating room. She returned to Acuity Vision in 2019 to work with Dr. Prytula after previously being at the practice from 2012-2015. Britney attended the University of Rhode Island where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. She is involved in the management of every department of the office and performs any medical testing needed to help the doctors diagnose and treat eye diseases. When she is not at the office, she enjoys travelling, working on her farm, holding charitable events, and spending time with her husband, children and three dogs.
Sarah has been in the optical industry since 2015. She started out as a technician but quickly found that her true passion was in the optical department and worked her way up to become a licensed optician! Sarah completed her American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification in 2020 to further her knowledge and fine-tune her opticianry skills. She loves helping patients find a unique frame to match their personality and style, and handles most of our glasses inventory. When not working, Sarah enjoys skiing, travelling, and spending time with her husband, son, and dog Athena.
Kelley has been in the optical industry for over 20 years, including experience in an optical lens manufacturing lab. She runs our edging (lens cutting) equipment to create your glasses in-house, as well as works with patients to choose the best lens and frame options for their visual needs. Outside of work, she enjoys days at the beach, watching her son play college Lacrosse, and spending time with her family and two dogs.
Billie-Jo has been in the optical industry since 2016 and joined the Acuity Team in 2023. She has extensive background in all areas of the office including optical, technician and front desk positions. She particularly enjoys assisting patients with frame selections (our biggest accessory!) and educating patients on lens designs and finishes. Outside of work, she enjoys family time and watching theatrical productions that her daughter directs in college.
After working in multiple healthcare settings (from medication administration to dental assisting), Hailie has finally found her true passion – eyes! She loves helping people and making their experience as enjoyable as possible. Her x-ray certification has helped her excel in optometric imaging techniques. Outside of work, she enjoys singing, driving to the beach and taking care of her two guinea pigs (Winnie and Piglet).
Shaelyn joined Acuity Vision in 2023 as an optometric technician after completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health at the University of South Carolina. She loves patient care and building relationships with patients, and is planning on becoming an Optometrist! When she is not in the office, she enjoys reading and spending time with her boyfriend Colby, 2 cats (Taco & Ziggy) and dog (Oreo).
